Biography

Gazardiel Elwood was was born the 7th son of a poor family in Old Sharlayan. His eldest brother was the first in their family to be accepted to the prestigious Studium. As a young boy, Gaz idolized his brother and wanted to follow in his footsteps. While he did manage to get accepted when he was older, he faced a number of difficulties that gave him a very different experience than his brother. He found himself at odds with Sharlayan's non-interventionist policies and traveled the world doing his best to aid the world in a time of various catastrophes, leaving his studies unfinished. As a much older man he returned to finish his studies thanks to the influence of some friends he had made in his travels. His grandfather had been an influential person in his life. Grandpa Jack lived in a village called Havenwood in the western reaches of Mor Dhona. He was a simple carpenter that loved his community, and Gaz would visit him as often as he could. One day, however, Grandpa Jack and the rest of Havenwood simply disappeared. Gaz returned to the village many times through the years, searching for clues as to what had happened and why, but never made any progress on his own. Vaeloria Forest, where the village was located, was its own mystery itself. Somehow it had escaped the devastation and change wrought by both the Battle of Silvertear Skies, and that of the 7th Umbral Calamity. His search for answers was halted when the events of the Final Days suddenly descended on the realm. He, along with others, spent every waking moment battling the monsters that had once been innocents, and helping those affected by the devastation. After that time, Gaz buried his friends and sought new purpose. He decided to move to the ruins of Havenwood and rebuild, swearing to finally uncover the answers to his missing grandfather and the rest of Havenwood's residents. He sent word through every channel he had left to spread the word that any needing a fresh start would find one in Havenwood.Unsurprisingly, Gazardiel was elected the first mayor of Havenwood in the new age. Along with his mayoral duties, he founded the Havenwood Historical Society--an organization dedicated to restoring and recovering the culture of the village, and discovering what was truly going on in the forest. He also took claim of a tower that was built in the middle of the village, a remnant of the First Wizard who had founded Havenwood generations ago. The tower boasted 100 floors, all of them mysterious and dangerous. Since then, Gaz has made a number of floors safe to visit, but most of the tower remains wild and unsafe, but fortunately sealed away as to not spill out into the village. In the early days of the village's restoration, Gaz was called away to help find some of his friends who had a run in with a villain that they had never been able to defeat. It was there that he found Lilia, an unfortunate victim of the villain's schemes. While he did not find his friends, he rescued Lilia and brought her back to the village. She became his apprentice, then his lover and companion. With her help, he continues to work towards his aspirations and goals, playing the role of mayor to a budding new village and heading the Historical Society to finally find answers about Grandpa Jack, and restore as much as he can of Havenwood's past.

Personality

Gaz has nothing if not personality. He is a man of many faces and even more emotions. His laughter comes quickly, and he smiles easily. While he is passionate about magic and solving mysteries, his true desire is to love and be loved in return. People have always been important to him. While being a recovering people pleaser from his boyhood days of being his sisters' errand boy, he is always happy to help his neighbors when they are in need. Gaz is the type of man to roll up his sleeves when a wagon is stuck in the mud.Gazardiel loves to be comfortable and enjoys good food and sweet treats. Between expeditions and traveling across the star, he is more than happy to spend his days at home or in his tower reading and being alone with his thoughts. Although, he dislikes ever being truly alone. As much as possible he loves having Lilia by his side, always craving her calming presence. Pippin, their corgi, is also an ever welcome addition even when he needs to recharge from being out in the world. Family is incredibly important to him, and he never tires of spending time with his own. While his overall appearance can be slightly unkempt, he is very particular about his hair. He can be covered in mud and moss, but his hair must always be just how he likes it. It is a daily routine to get his hair be so thick and filled with luster, and it is a routine he never misses. Most of the time no one need know about his obsession with his own locks, but should something go awry everyone will hear about it. Even when it looks messy, it is a planned and curated event. It is a small vanity that he lets himself enjoy.

Elwood Tower

Within the mysterious Silvermist Forest lies Elwood Tower. Gazardiel's tower has long since been a central figure in the development of the forest and later on the village of Havenwood. It hosts its own aethernet system to travel between its 100 different floors, however many of the floors are inaccessible to anyone that doesn't know how to navigate the tower. There are a few safe, accessible floors that Gaz's neighbors can visit.

Floor 100 - The Bedroom

Address:
Lily Hills Wing 2 Room #27, 29th Ward, The Lavender Beds - Mateus

Gaz's bedroom is at the very top of the tower on the 100th floor. It is surrounded by windows so that he can look out over the forest in every direction.

Floor 87 - The Bath

Address:
Lily Hills Wing 2 Room #35, 29th Ward, The Lavender Beds - Mateus

There is a very special bath that Gaz uses for his hair treatments and general hygiene. It is filled with sweet smelling concoctions and a number of floating mirrors that allow one to see their hair from every possible angle.

Address:
Lily Hills Wing 2 Room #38, 29th Ward, The Lavender Beds - Mateus

Floor 49 - The Kitchen

The tower's kitchen is not only where Gaz goes to eat, but the home of the golem Bruke. His face is the fireplace, and he regulates many systems throughout the tower, including the temperature. He can get grumpy, so Gaz does what he can to keep him happy so he doesn't freeze to death at night. His core is kept safely hidden away somewhere in the tower.

Floor 33 - The Observatory

Address:
Lily Hills Wing 2 Room #39, 29th Ward, The Lavender Beds - Mateus

The observatory floor is simply an unfurnished part of the tower that looks over the village. Gaz has set up a table and chairs to share drinks and chat with his visitors.

Floor 24 - The Library

Address:
Lily Hills Wing 2 Room #40, 29th Ward, The Lavender Beds - Mateus

In Gaz's personal library, a magical barrier appears should anyone take a book off the shelf. It allows visitors to read his collection, but none may take anything from it. It is usually peaceful and quiet, but every once in a while strange noises can be heard.

Floor 1 - Wizard's Whimsy

Address:
Lily Hills Wing 2 Room #41, 29th Ward, The Lavender Beds - Mateus

On the very first floor of the tower is Gaz's magic & curio shop, the Wizard's Whimsy. Here he sells a number of magical items to villagers and travelers, including ethers, potions, spellbooks, grimoires, staves, focus components, and more. The register is manned by the triplet arcane constructs Mad Bob, Sad Bob, & Bobby. They don't speak, but whenever an item is brought to the front the price will be shown on the till.

Basement - The Crysal Cave

Address:
Lily Hills Wing 2 Room #42, 29th Ward, The Lavender Beds - Mateus

Beneath the tower is a cave filled with crystals. It is a place dense with aether. Gaz claims that the water makes its way from Silvertear Lake, leaving the water enriched with aether. Whether or not that actually means anything is unknown, but there is a nice swing installed for meditative visits.

Below are just a few tidbits about me, the player, and my playstyle. If you ever have any questions or would like to reach out for some potential roleplay, please feel free to contact me through Discord or in-game.

✒ I'm 34 years old and don't really use social media, so for all intents and purposes I am a grandpa.✒ I don't play with anyone younger than 21 years old. I work with teenagers in real life, and they're great, but when I'm at home I want to interact with adults and use naughty words.✒ I've been playing and roleplaying in FFXIV since 2.0 beta. I prefer roleplay that is fairly close to lore, which I feel includes a lot since we've received so much lore over the years. Mainly I prefer settings where everyone is playing by the same rules and there's no conflict of logic.✒ I am currently finishing my degree to become a high school English teacher.✒ I am a huge English geek who loves stories and books, especially fantasy of any flavor. I look to stories to help me understand and live the human experience, and look for inspiration to become a better person, author, and teacher wherever I can find it.✒ I'm too old and weary for drama. If there are any major issues with roleplay, IC bleeding into OOC or vice versa, or with general OOC interaction, I will do my best to communicate but reserve the right to block and move on with my life. Life's too short to try and fix problems with internet strangers.

The beginning of a new era

"The Tower in the Woods"

He had made this trip several times since his grandfather had disappeared. In the grand scheme of things, one small village wasn't going to change the world. In the years of war, destruction, and the near end of the star, everyone had plenty to worry about. Every time he came back to the abandoned village, nothing changed. This time was different only because he wasn't going to leave. After everything he'd seen and experienced, he wanted a home. He wanted somewhere quiet where he didn't have to deal with politics and greed. Gaz wished he would find his grandfather toiling away in his workshop, ready to welcome him to the village like he always did before. He wanted to greet the farmers in their fields, smell the fresh baked bread, and find his old friends wandering around Hobble Creek. When he needed it the most, the village was gone.

"The Enchanted Forest"

It happened again, like it always did.Gaz found himself somewhere out in the forest with no memory of what he'd been doing. It'd be more alarming if he didn't feel so content every time. It was like whatever he was doing was something that filled him with a joy that couldn't be replicated anywhere else in his life. It was a fleeting feeling that soon left him. All he could do now was return to the life he actually remembered. Today, however, he lingered to try once again to piece things together. He sat down and closed his eyes, thinking as best he could about his earliest memories of coming to this place. It had been some years now. The forest wasn't a forest back then. Like much of Mor Dhona, its landscape had been scarred by a number of world altering events. He remembered picking this place because... it was close enough to Silvertear Lake but remote enough that no one ever came to this region. Why did it need to be near Silvertear? He couldn't remember. It was important, though, so they chose this spot. They chose it. He was with someone. Who was it? Why couldn't he remember? It was with their help that they revitalized the land and grew the forest. That had been beyond his capabilities before. So who was it that could do something that significant? He could remember bits and pieces of a conversation he had to name the new forest. His own voice was in his head, but he couldn't hear the other voice."Oh, you have an idea, do you? Okay, let's hear it. I bet it's great.""~ ~~~~~ ... ~~ ~~~~~~ ~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~! ~~~~~ ~~!""Silvermist Forest... Y'know what? That is a great name! Let's go with that. We live in Silvermist Forest now.""~~~! ~ ~~~~ ~~~, ~~~~!"He remembered being happy to hear that, whatever it was. What was the forest for? Why had they gone to such lengths to create this place? The tower? The countless magical defenses he'd been working on for years? Where was the person he had been with? None of it made any sense. Even still, he was bound to this place. Something told him his work wasn't done. Even without knowing what had happened or why, he knew he couldn't just walk away.He opened his eyes again. The answers still eluded him, but at least he knew that whatever was happening was important. Important enough to continue on, even if his memories continued to fade. The sound of the village reached him as people began to wake up and start their days. He smiled to himself. With a hop to his step, he walked back towards the village to start his own day. There were all sorts living in the forest with him now. Maybe things would change. Maybe with their help, he'd find the answers he was looking for.

"I think... it should be named Silvermist Forest! After me!""Yay! I love you, Paba!"
